Sometimes I think back to when I thought I was a conservative and remember how odd it felt to observe that every single artist and thinker I respected was a liberal. How did I hold tight to one side of the fence while every part of the world that excited and inspired me was firmly on the other? I guess that’s the kind of cognitive dissonance that results from having someone else’s nature stretched down over yours no matter how badly it fits. No wonder most teenagers are miserable.
